Multiplied Thoughts (May 23, 2013)

Christianity has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and not tried.

If you left your leaders by themselves, would they know what to do?

Flipping Back Through Time

I had the privilege to spend this past weekend in the mountains with my three roommates from my senior year at Davidson: Patrick, Erich, and Tennant. On the way back we stopped by Patrck’s grandparents house in Boone, NC to visit for a few.

While talking I mentioned that both my parents graduated from Appalachian State. Within seconds Patrick’s grandma had three ASU yearbooks in my lap, flipping pages searching for my dad’s last name and my mom’s maiden name.

I guess if you’re a popular female undergraduate at a small-ish college, you place a much higher priority or your college yearbook photo that if you’re a mid-twenty something Vietnam veteran going back to school to complete your degree. Perhaps this explains why we found three years of pictures of my mom, but none of my dad.

It was fun to peruse the yearbook pictures full of sports teams, clubs, and Greeks and see that college students were just as obnoxious and full of youth a generation ago that they are now.

Enjoy!

You’re not going to accidentally multiply missional leaders.

Multiplied Thoughts (May 18, 2013)

If you will seek the Lord, if you will make knowing Him and being known by Him your primary aim, not only will your character be shaped into the likeness of Christ, but you will also be building the foundation for missional leadership, both in your life and in the lives of the people you are shaping. This foundation of character is what sets the table of competency.

If you’re not actively seeking to live it, you don’t really believe it.

To be a disciple is to be a missionary, and to be a missionary requires that we be disciples.

“The truth about discipleship is that it’s never hip and never in style because discipleship is the call to come and die.”
